February 18 is Ash Wednesday. There are three opportunities to have ashes imposed at Westover Hills this year.
At 8:30am a brief service of morning prayer will be held in the chapel with ashes imposed on those who wish to receive them.
From 10am-2pm, Sister Carol Ann Blow and Sister Thea Bowman Ecumenical Catholic Church will be offering “drive-by ashes” at the roundabout in front of the church.
At 5:30 in a brief service of evening prayer will be held in the chapel with ashes imposed on those who wish to receive them.
You do not have to be a Presbyterian or even a Christian to receive the ashes. They are a reminder that we are all mortal and all part of God’s unfolding world. They are also a reminder of our sins and God’s love. Although we are sinners “stained” by our sins, we are also marked as God’s own. In other words, we are loved!
