Summer of Healthy Living

Our Summer of Healthy Living initiative was inspired by a common need across our mission partners working with children; fresh fruit during the summer. A long-standing tradition at Westover Hills is the provision of fresh fruit weekly to Women and Children First. This summer we have expanded that ministry to include the Thrasher Boys and Girls Club and the family food box ministry of El Zocalo.

Women and Children First

WCF is a long-time partner of Westover Hills and we have provided fresh fruit in the summer for many years. Because of changes in food assistance programs, it is increasingly difficult for agencies like WCF to fill in the gaps with healthy food for clients. Our summer fruit program ensures that every week there is some fresh fruit available.

Thrasher Boys and Girls Club

Thrasher’s summer program includes several meal and snack components to ensure that the kids who rely on free or reduced lunch and breakfast during the school year are cared for over the summer. Each Friday Westover provides a fresh fruit snack for the 150 kids in the summer program.

El Zocalo

Unlike our other partners, El Zocalo provides large famly food boxes twice per month for immigrant families in need. The food for the boxes is often limited by shelf-life and availability. The Summer of Healthy Living initiative is timed to provide a healthy amount of fresh produce (tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, etc.)

This summer the produce will be collected on July 9 in the back (lower) parking lot.
