This summer WHPC launched a new partnership with Thrasher Boys and Girls Club in the south end neighborhood. As we build our new relationship with Thrasher, we were able to meet two immediate needs. First, as part of our Summer of Healthy Living we are providing a fresh fruit snack each Friday for the summer program. As available resources are reduced for the club and the need continues to grow, this was a gap our Mission and Social Action Ministry was eager to help fill.
Our second partnership is supporting the weekly field trips for the kids at Thrasher. The club uses LRSD buses for the trips. Those buses cost $300 each week and often the cost prevents some kids from being able to participate. Thanks to the stewardship giving of WHPC members and friends, we were able to underwrite the busses for all ten weeks of field trips this summer making it possible for every child to participate regardless of economic circumstances.
